book Rob and Jo poles collage

Rob and Jo have recently skied the last degree to the North Geographical Pole and arrived at the pole at 1900 GMT, April 20th 2005.

They reached the South Geographic Pole on skis just over a year ago on the 29th December 2003.

This completes 1 year and 313 days of expeditions during which time they have both climbed the 7 summits and skied the last degree to the North and South poles together making them the first couple to do this, Jo the first female and Rob the first Australian.

They had an eventful journey to the North Pole with several members falling through the ice into the freezing arctic sea. Every day they experienced extreme temperatures, down to minus 45 degrees centigrade and with bone chilling winds. The drifting polar ice sheet provided challenging terrain to negotiate making it a giant frozen assault course. Where the ice sheets had pressed together, pressure ridges had formed with ice blocks the size of cars to climb over and where it had split apart, open leads of water had developed that they had to find a way around or over. One night the ice sheet even split apart under one of the teams tents!
